Rd 6 Crowhill Race Report
Jon Girroir Takes his Fifth Overall Win at Crow Hill
Round six of the J Day GP series headed back to the infamous Crow Hill MX facility, where the skies were blue, the track was flawless and the racing was spectacular. With over 300 riders racing on the fast flowing GP track, the spectators were treated to amazing viewing locations due to the open design of the Crow Hill MX facility and the spectator friendly track lay out.
Moto one started with Jon Girroir grabbing the Holeshot. Jon was riding at a blisteringly fast pace, building his lead with every lap.
Jon would finish 45 seconds ahead of second which went to Derrick Barnaby. Derrick had a mid pack start and worked his way up to 2nd by the second lap where he would finish but not without battling with up and comer Brendan Riordan. Brendan caught Derrick half way through the race and the two pushed the pace putting down lap times to rival Jon Girroir, but the efforts were too little too late and Brendan would take third place for the moto. Fourth place went to Josh Cennamo and fifth went to Kyle Hangos.
Moto two saw Beau Viens grabbing the STS Motorsports Holeshot award. Jon Girroir got a poor start putting him at the back of the pack, but by the time he finished the first lap, he had worked his way up to second place, and by lap two he had pulled a lead over second place.
Jon would push the whole race putting down lap times no one could match, eventually finishing about one minute ahead of second. Second place went to Derrick Barnaby who led the first lap and eventually settled into second place where he rode smart but fast. Third place went to Josh Cennamo who rode the whole moto in third place putting in fast, consistent laps. Fourth place went to Kyle Hangos who came around the first lap in 11th place and worked his way all the way up to fourth by the end of the third lap. Fifth place went to Chase Simone on his new KTM 250 SX.
The overall win would go to Jon Girroir with 1-1 moto scores. This marks Jon’s fifth overall victory of the year. Second place went to Derrick Barnaby with 2-2 moto scores. Third place was Josh Cennamo with 4-3 moto scores. Fourth place went to Kyle Hangos with 5-4 moto scores and fifth place was Beau Viens with 7-7 moto scores. In the amateur division, Rick Melise was awarded the $100 Kevin’s Cycle award.
