MSR Rd.1 Race Report
Round one of the 2012 J Day GP series kicked off with a huge event in Monson MA.
Over 1000 J Day Off Road fans rolled through the gates on Sunday morning for the STS Motorsports Red Dragon GP and almost 400 riders took part in the racing action. With amazing battles and many excellent viewing positions, the Red Dragon GP delivered a spectacular off road racing experience.
Moto one of the pro race went off with Johnny Girrior grabbing the early lead, putting about a minute and a half between himself and second place.
Second place went to Scotty DeCosta with Josh Cennamo following not far behind in third place. Fourth and fifth place went to Jake Korn and Jason Klammer.
Moto two started with Jared Boothroyd grabbing the $100 STS motorsports Holeshot award.
Johnny Girrior made the pass for the lead in the third turn and never looked back, opening up a commanding lead of close to a minute by the end of the moto. Second place seemed to be wrapped up by Jacob Morrison until Jake Korn worked his way from fifth place through the pack catching Morrison at the start of the final lap. Immediately following the extreme section Korn made the pass on Morrison after racing bar to bar for a lap only to find out that Morrison’s bike had stopped running. Morrison ran with his bike for the rest of the lap trying to preserve his spot on the podium, only to find out he missed a portion of the track and would be disqualified. Jake Korn would take a hard earned second place with Jason Klammer finishing third.
The overall went to Johnny Girrior with 1-1 moto wins, Jake Korn took second with 4-2 moto scores and Josh Cennamo third overall with a 3-4 moto score. In the Amateur division Rick Melise took the B 250 win and was awarded the $100 Kevin’s Cycle Amateur Award.
